Zebulon, NC- The Carolina Mudcats (25-11) played host to the Fayetteville Woodpecks (18-19) in a Friday evening contest. The Mudcats entered today’s contest 3.5 games ahead of the Lynchburg Hillcats (23-14) in the North Division standing. The Mudcats sent Jaron DeBerry (0-0) to the mound who entered tonight’s game with a 1.93 ERA in 4.2 innings pitched. The Woodpeckers sent Alonzo Tredwell (1-0) to the mound who entered tonight’s game with a 4.29 ERA in 21 innings pitched. The Carolina Mudcats entered tonight’s game with a +75 run differential.
The Woodpeckers struck in the top of the 5th when Kedaur Trujillo scored on an error by Demetrio Nadal which gave them a 1-0 lead. Fayetteville added to their lead in the top of the 6th when Alberto Hernandez scored on a single by Drew Brutcher which increased the lead to 2-0. Later in the inning Janel Villarroel scored on a ground rule double to right center field by Caden Powell which increased the lead to 3-0. Drew Butcher and Caden Powell scored later in the inning on a wild pitch which increased the lead to 5-0.
Jaron Deberry threw 4 scoreless innings where he only allowed 3 hits. Alonzo Tredwell threw 5 scoreless innings where he only allowed 1 hit.
The Mudcats responded in the bottom half when Luis Pena scored on a single by Marco Dinges which cut the deficit to 5-1. The Mudcats left the bases loaded in the 9th after 3 walks which led to Fayetteville gaining the 5-1 win
Jack Seppings threw 2 scoreless innings where he only allowed 2 hits.
The winning pitcher for the Woodpeckers was Alonzo Tredwell for his 5 innings pitched. The losing pitcher for the Mudcats was Bjorn Johnson for his 3 innings where he allowed 5 runs on 4 hits. Joan Ogando was credited with the save for his 4 innings where he allowed 1 run on 1 hit. The Mudcats record fell to 25-11 while the Woodpeckers improved their record to 18-19. The Mudcats are exited the night only 2.5 games ahead of the Lynchburg Hillcats. The Mudcats are back in action tomorrow night at 6:30 pm at Five County Stadium.
Manager Stanley met with the media following the conclusion of the game. When asked about the performance of pitcher Jaron DeBerry, Manager Stanley said:
“Yeah, he pitched great, obviously a guy who’s working his way back from injury and just been getting better every time and staying healthy, which is the most important thing.”
When asked about the fans tonight, Manager Stanley said:
“Yeah, it’s awesome. Love playing here. When it’s packed like that it’s just a good energy in the ballpark, and hopefully it’ll continue.”
