Southern Fried Sports and Greenville Sports Media are in Asheville to cover the Southern Conference Men’s Basketball tournament. The day opens up with eight seed Mercer playing one seed Chattanooga. We will have coverage throughout the day from different games and people.
1st Half Highlights
Chattanooga and Mercer tipped off at 12 noon and the game has been a ferocious battle so far. Chattanooga sitting at 23-8 overall and 15-3 in the Southern Conference while Mercer is 14-18 overall and 6-12 in conference. There have been several lead changes in the first 10 minutes as Mercer nails a three pointer to give them a four-point lead. Both teams have three fouls, and all their timeouts left currently. The score is 20-19 Mercer with 7:54 to go. The back and forth continues as both teams make a few baskets with Mercer getting a bounce. Mercer leads 26-23 with 5:09 to go in the first half but make two free throws to extend it to 28-23. At the under-five media timeout, Mercer leads 30-26 with that score maintaining still at 2:30 to go first half. Mercer makes a pair of free throws and Chattanooga answers to make the score 32-28 with 42.9 seconds to go. Mercer drives and scores as the clock runs down to take a six-point 34-28 lead into half. Mercer has seven points off turnovers to Chattanooga’s two. Mercer’s bench has outscored Chattanooga 13-7 as well.
2nd Half Highlights
Chattanooga closes the six-point lead to tie the game 36-36 with eighteen minutes to go in the second half. Chattanooga hits a three and it seems as if the momentum is swinging their way here early in the second half. Chattanooga’s Keeslar hits another three for Chattanooga to make the score 42-38 with 15:25 to go. Ahmad Robinson from Mercer elbows a player in the stomach, and we are under review for a Flagrant 1 with Chattanooga leading 44-38 with 14:57 to go. Technical accessed and Chattanooga makes both free throws to extend their lead to 46-38. After a small Chattanooga run, Mercer battles back but still are down seven points with 12:09 to go in the game. Chattanooga continues to stretch their lead with the help of a few foul calls. The score is 67-58 with 4:12 to go in the second half. Honor Huff has hit some three pointers for Chattanooga down the stretch as they lead 69-58 with 2:01 to go. Chattanooga hits a seven-point run to stretch it 76-58 and the game ends at 76-61 with Chattanooga advancing to the semi-finals.
