Wofford vs UNCG
It’s the quarterfinals of the SoCon Tournament here in Harrah’s Cherokee Center. Today we will have some of the best mid major teams in the country facing off. It should make for some great action on the hardwood.
Mercer vs UT Chattanooga will be starting the day. Mercer is fresh off a win in the first round over Western Carolina. In a game where Mercer dominated; Holt and Robinson both put up 24 and 23 points respectively.Today the competition gets much tougher as they will face off against one seed in Chattanooga.Chattanooga is lead by Honor Huff averaging 14.7 ppg and Bash Wieland with 14 ppg. This should should be a game where the energy will be intense as Mercer tries to pull off a monumental upset over the 23-8 Mocs.
The 2nd game willl see the (2) UNC-Greensboro against VMI. While many think the the road leads to UNCG to take on Chattanooga in the finals they better not look past VMI. While VMI is the 7th seed they pose a threat with a very tight defense and the ability to make the game ugly. UNCG will definitely have their hands full in this matchup. VMI did beat the Citadel in a game that got off to a very rocky start with both teams beginning the game 0-21 from three-point range. If they want to remain close against UNCG then they will have to come out firing on all cylinders.

The night games will tipoff with Wofford vs ETSU. This could actually be the game of the night. Corey Tripp will lead the Terriers into battle averaging 14.3 while the leader for ETSU is Quimari Peterson averaging 19.4 ppg. Both teams are averaging 74 ppg and shoot an identical 45% from the field. This game will be a barn burner and one that you will not want to miss. Both teams like to push the ball up the court and love to give the fans a show.

The final game will be (4) Samford vs (5) Furman. This is another game where both teams are evenly matched. While they are mid level seeds they pay a high intensity style of basketball that makes either of these teams a possiblity to make a run in the tournament. Many still say the road to the finals will go through Chattanooga, both of these teams pose a threat to these top teams. Furman is lead by star PJay Smith averaging 17ppg while Samford has Trey Fort that averages a respectable 15 ppg. This will be the match up to watch as both of these guys will be going at it for 4 quarters. If either the Paladins or the Bulldogs get hot then any team in their way better watch out.
This is mid major basketball at it’s best. The SoCon is one of the most underrated mid major conferences and from watching these teams you will not be disappointed! First game is at at noon and they run through til 8:30 being the final game. It will be a fantastic day for basketball!
