The Furman Paladins Lacrosse (0-0) opens up the season versus the Old Dominion Monarchs (2-0) on as a Valentines special 5pm attraction for the fans. Furman enters the season with a new coaching staff and a new since to go further in the Big South tournament this year. New Furman head coach Gail Wallach brings allot of experience and is excited to bring her style to the Paladins team who returns a bunch of experience lead by Big South star Anna Roser.

Old Dominion comes off to wins against Big South teams Wofford (w14-10) and Longwood (w13-6). Third year coach Theresa Walton has her group ready to have a great year in the SunBelt Conference. The game starts and both teams have great chances on goal and its ODU that gets on the board first with #55 Sarah Murrell getting the shot in on #28 Goalie Sailor Henderson of Furman.

We have 8:45 left in the first quarter of play here at Furman and the score is 1-0 ODU in the lead. ODU gets yet another goal before #18 Lily Toole for Furman gets a huge first goal of the season and the score is now 2-1 Furman trailing with 2:55 left in the first quarter. The quarter ends with the 2-1 Old Dominion lead as Furman choses to run out the clock and head to the next quarter. Anna Roser gets her first goal of the year and that is followed by Sophia Buzelis getting her first with an assist by Anna and Furman leads 3-2 in the second quarter. ODU then gets a score, and the game is tied up with 11 minutes to go in the half.

ODU gets the next goal with 41 seconds left in the half to go ahead 4-3 over the Paladins as we reach halftime here at Paladin stadium. The stats for Furman 8 shots, 4 on goal, 4 saves, and 7 fouls. ODU had 10 shots, 8 on goal with 1 save, and 6 fouls. Both teams have played very good defense, and the second half looks to be a battle.

Furman gets a huge goal right at the start of the third quarter as #17 Paige Harmon gets a assist from #18 Lily Toole and Furman ties up the game 4-4 at the 14-minute mark. Furman gets yet another huge goal as #1 Sophia Buzelis from #17 Paige Harmon and Furman takes a 5-4 lead over ODU. Furman then right before the shot clock goes off gets a goal from #33 Nadine Galiano gets her first goal and its 6-4 Furman in front as they head to a media timeout. Furman has scored 3 unanswered goals with 11:11 in the 3rd quarter. Furman #18 Lily Toole gets a goal unassisted and its now 7-4 Paladins in the lead with 9 minutes left.

ODU finally gets back on the board when #29 Callie Culhane and its now 7-5 Paladins still in the lead with just under 8 minutes left in the quarter. ODU follows that goal up with another by #29, her 8th goal of the year, 2nd of this game and we are at 7-6 Paladins still in the lead. Furman then ends their drought by scoring when #17 Paige Harmen gets her 2nd goal of the night, and we are at 8-6 Furman in the lead.

ODU then strikes back with a goal when #9 Kylie O’Donnell scores and we are at 8-7 Paladins lead by one with 4 minutes left in the 3rd quarter. Furman gets the ball in the net when #18 Lily Toole has her third of the night getting the hat trick and its now 9-7 Paladins ahead 1:14 left in the third. ODU gets back in the game with a goal #12Alex Kulinski with her second of the game now its 9-8. We come to the end of the 3rd and our score is 9-8 and Furman is holding on to a lead of 1 over the Monarchs.

Furman takes a timeout with 12:54 left in the game and have a 9-8 lead over the Monarchs of ODU. Furman goalie #28 Sailor Henderson has 7 saves and has played well for the Paladins. Anna Roser gets her second goal of the game and its now 10-8 Furman with 11:41 left in the game. The first team All-Big South player last year has an assist and 2 goal from 3 shots in this game. We have a timeout with 6 minutes left in the game and we are still at 10-8 Furman in the lead over ODU. Furman #18 Lily Toole has her 4th goal tonight assisted by #21 Caroline Smith and the score is 11-8 Paladins leading with under 5 minutes left in the game.

ODU #55 Sarah Murrell gets a quick score to get the Monarchs within 2 points as its 11-9 with 3 minutes left in the game. The Paladins with just 1 minute left in the game is holding on to a 2-point lead as ODU is giving the full field press and keeping the ball in Paladin territory as ODU gets a green card. Furman will run out the clock and get the win 11-9.
