In a game filled with grit, hustle, and competitive fire, Montgomery Bell Academy (MBA) showcased their offensive firepower and defensive intensity to claim a commanding 57-45 victory over Chattanooga Prep at the McCallie Dr Pepper Classic.
The game opened with both teams trading buckets despite aggressive defensive pressure on both ends. Chattanooga Prep, playing without their all-state star who was sidelined due to an injury in their last game, leaned on their tenacity on the offensive boards to stay in the fight. However, missed opportunities around the rim began to haunt them as MBA closed the first quarter on a 7-0 run, securing a 14-7 lead.
MBA’s hot streak continued early in the second quarter, fueled by back-to-back three-pointers that stretched their lead to double digits. Chattanooga Prep struggled to find offensive rhythm, falling behind by as many as 12 points. But Joel emerged as the much-needed spark, igniting a run that brought the crowd to its feet and trimmed the deficit. Despite their efforts, MBA entered halftime with momentum on their side
The second half saw MBA crank up their defensive intensity, limiting Chattanooga Prep to one shot per possession and dominating the transition game. Their efficient offense created their largest lead of the game at 45-28 with just under three minutes left in the third quarter. Yet, Chattanooga Prep refused to go down quietly. Fueled by relentless effort, they ended the quarter on a 7-0 run, narrowing the gap to 11 points heading into the fourth.
Despite their scrappiness and ability to earn trips to the free throw line, missed opportunities around the basket and at the charity stripe proved costly for Chattanooga Prep. MBA’s well-rounded performance, highlighted by sharp shooting and solid defense, sealed the victory as they cruised to a 57-45 win.
For Chattanooga Prep, the absence of their star player was evident, but their fight and resilience stood out. MBA’s ability to execute in crucial moments and their depth on both ends of the floor were the defining factors in this marquee matchup at the McCallie Dr Pepper Classic.
