We are two weeks into the 2024 NFL regular season, and injuries reign supreme.
Left and right, up and down the league players are falling to the dreaded soft tissue injuries that often come with the beginning of the season.
Enough injuries, and a team’s season can be over before it starts. It’s how each team adapts to the challenges injuries raise that determines who comes out on top at the end of the season. Given the sheer amount of game-changing injuries around the league, it is difficult to say who the best teams are. We’ve ranked them below, as always, but only time will tell if we are on target or woefully inaccurate.
So without further ado, enjoy week 3 of the Greenville Sports Media NFL Power Rankings, and don’t let the injury bug bite.
1. Kansas City Chiefs (Previously 1)
Kansas City has lost Isiah Pacheco and Hollywood Brown for the majority of the season, but the Chiefs should be just fine.
2. Houston Texans (Previously 4)
The Texans are 2-0, although some injuries and chemistry issues are apparent. Time should heal all wounds in Houston.
3 . Buffalo Bills (Previously 8)
Buffalo is far better than we have been led to believe.
4. San Francisco 49ers (Previously 2)
The injury bug is hitting San Francisco especially hard.
5. Philadelphia Eagles (Previously 3)
The Eagles gambled away their Monday Night game against the Falcons by passing in a clock management situation. The Eagles have not impressed to begin the season.
6. Green Bay Packers (Previously 9)
Jordan Love might be back this week, and the Packers got a win without him anyway. Skies are blue in Green Bay right now.
7. New Orleans Saints (Previously 17)
Derek Carr and the Saints can be credited with stopping violent crime in New Orleans. (Source: someone said it on Twitter)
8. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (Previously 10)
Let Baker keep baking.
9. Detroit Lions (Previously 6)
The Lions are experiencing some early season struggles, but everything should be all right in Detroit.
10. Dallas Cowboys (Previously 5)
Losing by that much to the Saints at home is simply demoralizing. The Cowboys will attempt to find some defense on Sunday.
11. Baltimore Ravens (Previously 7)
Dropping a game to the Raiders is less than inspiring. The Ravens are underperforming compared to their expectations to start the year.
12. Atlanta Falcons (Previously 16)
Kirk Cousins led a vintage game winning drive on Monday Night Football to clip the wings of the Philadelphia Eagles. Morale is high in Atlanta.
13. Minnesota Vikings (Previously 20)
Sam Darnold’s career resurgence has stretched to two games. Will we see a 3rd?
14. Pittsburgh Steelers (Previously 14)
Steelers 2-0. Therefore, Steelers going Super Bowl.
15. Cincinnati Bengals (Previously 11)
The win is always so close, and yet so far away when the Bengals play the Kansas City Chiefs.
16. New York Jets (Previously 15)
A-Rod is back.
17. Los Angeles Chargers (Previously 21)
The only 2-0 team in the city of Los Angeles.
18. Miami Dolphins (Previously 12)
Tua is not ok, and neither are the Dolphins.
19. Los Angeles Rams (Previously 13)
Injuries are rocking the Rams.
20. Arizona Cardinals (Previously 26)
Kyler Murray went nuclear.
21. Las Vegas Raiders (Previously 30)
The Raiders roster had my curiosity. Now, their win over the Raiders and the play of Gardner Minshew have my attention.
22. Seattle Seahawks (Previously 22)
It took overtime for the Seahawks to beat a weak New England team. Not overly encouraging.
23. Chicago Bears (Previously 19)
The Chicago Bears still, in fact, suck.
24. Indianapolis Colts (Previously 18)
The Packers couldn’t even hardly throw the ball for crying out loud. Anthony Richardson has got to improve for this team to do anything.
25. Cleveland Browns (Previously 24)
They won the battle of mid.
26. Jacksonville Jaguars (Previously 23)
They lost the battle of mid. Trevor Lawrence has not won a football game since Thanksgiving of 2023.
27. New England Patriots (Previously 25)
Back to earth for the Patriots.
28. Washington Commanders (Previously 28)
They beat the Giants. Super Bowl incoming.
29. Denver Broncos (Previously 27)
Bo Nix? More like Throw Nix.
30. Tennessee Titans (Previously 29)
What pose will Will Levis be photographed in this week?
‘Editors Note’ Neither of the following two teams (the New York Giants and the Carolina Panthers) deserve to be ranked higher than 32. After deep consideration, the only fair solution is to continue the Daniel Jones and Bryce Young tier, now with David Tepper in for his teams gaffe with the #1 pick.
Special consideration for Daniel Jones and David Tepper. (Previously Bryce Young)
T-32. Carolina Panthers (Previously T-32)
The #1 pick? On the bench. Andy Dalton season in Carolina. Let’s ride (the bench).
T-32 . New York Giants (Previously T-32)
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
