When Kentucky Women’s Basketball landed new coach Kenny Brooks from Virginia Tech in March the 6’7” Center Clara Silvia was one of his prized recruits in his 2024 class. The Portuguese born Silva, recently turned 18 years old quickly followed her coach and committed and signed to play for the Wildcats.

While most her teammates have been in Lexington in the summer training camp since mid-June, Silva is playing FIBA U18 EuroBasket for her home country Portugal. She played last year on the under 18 team and averaged over 18 points and 11 rebounds.
Silva, with her superb play, has led her country to the quarterfinals of the U18EuroBasket tournament. Through four games she is averaging 20.3 points 8.5 rebounds and 3.0 assist. Her best game was a 28-point performance, and she has had two games with 20 points or more.
Kentucky and Clara Silva’s Basketball Future
The tournament is ongoing and does not crown a champion till August 11th. We will update the tournament as it closes out, but 1 thing is certain for the Kentucky Wildcats Women’s Basketball team, they have one of the best big players joining their program soon. Silva will be a leader in college basketball over the next few years and Kenny Brooks and his staff have shown that they know how to use size to their advantage.
