Zebulon, NC- The Carolina Mudcats (24-16) played host to the Myrtle Beach Pelicans (18-23). The Mudcats entered the contest sitting in second place in the North division trailing the Fredericksburg Nationals (27-15) by 1 game. The Carolina Mudcats sent Bishop Letson (0-1) to the mound who had a 3.38 ERA in 16 innings pitched before Thursday’s match up. Myrtle Beach sent Kenten Egbert (2-2) to the mound who had a 3.96 ERA in 25 innings pitched before Thursday’s contest.
The Pelicans scored first in the top of the second with a hit by pitch, and a home run by Alfonsin Rosario over the right field wall to take a 2-0 lead. The Pelicans continued scoring in the top of the 5th with a single and a sacrifice bunt which set up a Reginald Perciado double down the right field line which increased the lead to 3-0. The Pelicans continued scoring with a Jacob Wetzel single to left field which increased the lead to 4-0.
The Pelicans continued scoring in the top of the 6th with a hit by pitch, 2 singles and a sac-fly which increased the lead to 6-0. The Pelicans maintained that score to win 6-0 over the Mudcats.
Kenton Egbert threw 6.1 innings of scoreless baseball while only allowing 3 hits. Jeral Vizcaino threw 2.2 innings of scoreless baseball while only allowing 2 hits.
The winning pitcher for Myrtle Beach was Kenton Egbert. The losing pitcher for Carolina was Bishop Letson who threw 3.2 innings while allowing 3 hits and 2 runs while registering 6 strikeouts. The Mudcats fell to 2 games behind the Nationals in the North division. The Mudcats will meet the Pelicans again tomorrow night at 6:30 pm.
