In The Beginning
Coach Gary Gilmore began his coaching career at Coastal Carolina University in 1996 and has
been at the helm for the past 29 years.

As a coach and family man “Gilley,” as he is affectionately known by his fan base, staff, and
players has certainly had his ups and downs along the path that he has traveled. As he stated at his
retirement ceremony and I quote, “life is not easy but it worth the ride!” Coach Gilley proudly thanked many of his former players, coaches, and fans for all of the years
of support. Particularly, those who have been by his side throughout two separate bouts with
cancer, one diagnosis of stage 4 as recent as September of 2023.
Thanks For the Memories!

Coach Gilley, as fans we are going to have to make some adjustments for next season. Not
hearing your walk-up song, “Red Dirt Road,” by Brooks and Dunn will be tough to swallow.
Hopefully, we will be over our grief period by then and can put our full support behind our New
Head Baseball Coach, Kevin Schnall, who has already been named Coastal’s new Skipper!
Coach Gilley, Teal Nation owes you a debt of gratitude for the program you built and the things
in the future that will be a part of you! You brought us our first NCAA Division 1 College Baseball
World Series Championship in 2016! Don’t be a stranger to the program and baseball but enjoy
every moment of your retirement with your beautiful wife and family. A good day fishing is good
for your health and we know you will be taking care of it all! But first could you please lead Teal
Nation on one “Last Ride,” into The Post Season! Chants Up! 👌⚾️👌⚾️👌⚾️
