Furman Softball Faces First Louisville in Double Header Bash at the Beach Tourney at Coastal Carolina

Furman Paladins Softball rides into Conway, S.C. for a Tourney battle that was cancelled yesterday, but today they have a double header with the first ACC powerhouse Louisville Cardinals then Bowling Green before closing it out tomorrow facing Bowling Green again then tourney host Coastal Carolina in a double header on Sunday.

The pledge has been sung and we are ready for some softball here at Coastal Carolina. Furman is up at the top half of the first. Furman gets the first batter on base with a walk, next up gets a strike out and we have 1 out and a runner on. Furman gets a single and we have runners on second and first with an out. Next up #15 Kiley Perry hits a 3-run homerun and Furman is up 3-0 in the first with one out.

Furman gets another walk followed by a single and now its runners on second base and first with 2 outs. Louisville is in a danger zone here in the first trying to get that final out, and they get a grounder to third to end the top of the first with Furman leading 3-0.

Louisville is up now at the top of the first, they get a walk to start it off, next batter up hits a grounder to first and is out and followed by a pop up to left and its two outs. Louisville’s next batter hits to first and Furman gets out of the inning. We are now in the top of the second and Furman has a out and a runner on first and we have a pitching change for Louisville as #00 is on the mound. Furman has #5 Ashlee Lykins up to bat and she gets a walk and its runners on first and second with one out. Next batter pops up and we have two outs as Kiley Perry is up again after hitting a 3-run homer her first time up. She hits a single up the middle and scores two more runs. Furman has its final out and we head to the bottom of the second.

Louisville starts off the inning with the first two batters getting out, but the next batter up gets a ball to drop in right behind first base and gets a runner on base. The cardinals get another run and its runners at second and first with 2 outs. They get them out and Furman is now up at the top of the third.

Furman’s first batter strikes out and now it’s one out and now its Ansley Chiang up to bat, she gets on first and Furman once again has a run on in its third straight inning. This is a great change after the game with the Gamecocks Wed. night in Columbia when they only had one hit. Another hit and now runners on first and second for Furman looking to extend its lead. Chloe Fabio up to hit for Furman with one out and she walks, and the bases are loaded for #7 Ainsley Yoshizumi, and we have a meeting at the mound as the Cardinals have a new pitcher. It’s a grand slam and Furman is up 9-0 and the girls are going crazy, as the Paladins still just have one out in the inning. Cardinals get the final out, but the damage is done.

Furman now pitching to the Cardinals who need a huge inning to get back in this game. Sierra is pitching a great game so far this game. Cards get a runner on first, and the next batter gets a walk and it’s no outs and two runners on, meeting on the mound and we got to the next batter but after ball Coach Stacey goes out to talk to her pitcher and get her calmed down as the bullpen warms up. We get to a full count and then a walk and bases loaded for the Cardinals. the Cards next batter gets a single and Cards are on the board with 2 runs and no outs. Runners are the second and third and the batter gets struck out and Furman has a little something to be excited about next batter hits to second and double play by #4 Sierra Tufts.

Furman in this inning gets both batters out to start off the inning, the next batter #16 Lauralee Scott strikes out and the Cards get out of their first inning without giving a run up. Bottom of the 4th and the Cardinals get a single up the middle and are showing life. We have a pitching change as #00 Emme Buzhardt comes to the mound. She comes in and walks the first batter so runners at second and first. Next batter grounds out to the SS and we have the first out but runners on first and third. Furman walks the next batter to have bases loaded still with just an out. Furman gets an out but a run score and its now 9-3 bottom of the 4th inning and Furman gets the final out.

Furman starts off with a fly ball to the short stop and its one down and next up is #8 Alex Rose Molinar to bat, and she hits to the short stop and its two outs and Furman has cooled down form the first three innings. Next batter up hits a ball that is mis caught by the RF and turns into a double. Furman has a runner on with two outs and #7 up to hit, she strikes out and we head to the bottom of the 5th 9-4 Furman still in the lead.

Furman gets the first batter out and the next one gets slung out as SS #8 Alex Rose slings out the runner and its two outs. Furman on the next batter always a hit up the middle and the cards get a runner on first with two outs. Furman gets out of the inning with a great diving catch by the centerfielder.

Furman is able to get a runner on first with the first hitter, next batter nails one down the first base line and gets a triple and drives in a run and Furman is up 10-4 now. Kiley Perry nails her second homerun and is followed by #2 Hanna Poole gets her second homerun and its 13-4.

New pitcher for the Cardinals, Furman gets the walk and now runner on first with no outs. Next batter for Furman gets thrown out but runner advances to second for Furman with one out. Another out and Furman has #13 Christina McCoy up to bat with two outs, she pops it up and we are now at the bottom of the 6th inning.

The fans are singing Sweet Carolin, and we are now back to playing ball. Furman walks the first batter and next batter up hits to the SS and the runner is thrown out at second. Runner on first, and one out the next batter for the Cards hits to the first baseman and is out so two outs and a runner on second for the Cardinals. The batter hits a blooper to first the second baseman could not catch it and runner is safe at second and a run scores 13-5 now. next batter gets a hit, and runners are on the corners for Furman and it’s a meeting at the mound. Wild pitch and other score by the Cardinals and its 13-6 and a huge shot to center and another score for the Cardinals and its 13-7 Furman still in the lead but Louisville trying to make a comeback with still two outs. Furman gets the final out of the inning and escape from another runner.

Furman first batter gets on base with no outs and the next batter pops out. Furman gets another hit and its runners on second and first with two outs. Furman is thrown out at first and it’s the bottom of the 7th and final inning of this game baring a extra inning caused by the Cards. Louisville has three outs to score at least 6 runs to get this game into another inning. Furman gets the first out and they have two more to end this game. Next batter up hits a single past the first and second baseman and runner on first 1 out 13-7 Furman leading still. Furman allows a hit past the SS and runners are on the corners with one out, new pitcher in for Furman #16 Lauralee Scott. Furman is able to get the second out but another run scores and its 13-8. Cardinals have runners at second and first after a walk and its two outs for Furman to close this out. The bases are loaded after another walk and Furman needs to get this next batter out. Furman gets the out and Furman wins 13-8 and we get set for game 2 Furman vs Bowling Green.
