The Furman Paladins Women’s basketball squad traveled to Macon, GA for Thursday evening’s Southern Conference matchup with the Mercer Bears.
It was the first loss in the Paladins (14-13, 4-7) last three games, snapping a short-lived two game win streak. For the Bears (12-16, 6-6) it was their third victory in the last 5 Mercer contests, and brought Mercer to .500 in SoCon play.
The Bears held a comfortable lead for much of the game, even leading by as much as 18 points midway through the 3rd quarter. But there was no quit to be seen on the Furman sideline, as the Paladins stormed all the way back, pulling as close as 50-51 with under a minute to play.
Unfortunately for the Paladins, the comeback victory wasn’t in the Cards as the Bears scored 4 unanswered points in the final minute to win the game by a 55-50 margin.
Jada Session led the Paladins with 19 points while Sydney Ryan and Niveya Henley each added 8 to the Furman total.
Summah Evans paced the Bears in scoring with 16 points, while Stacie Jones added 12 points of her own. Additionally, Briana Peguero came off the bench and scored 9 points for Mercer.
