The Kentucky Wildcats (9-14) take on the Texas A&M Aggies (16-6) in women’s basketball today at Rupp Arena in Lexington, Kentucky. A&M center Lauren Ware scored the first basket of the game and Maddie Scherr quickly answered with a three pointer to give the Cats their first lead 3-2.
The Aggies started hot from the floor shooting 78% to start the game and took an early 13-5 lead as Cats Coach Elzy called a timeout to settle her squad. From there, the Cats started chipping away and cut the lead to 17-12 after the first quarter. Ware had to go to the bench with two fouls and Kentucky took advantage. Maddie led the Cats with 6 points in the first quarter.
In the second quarter the Aggies played over half of the quarter without Ware and the Cats played good defense to get back into the game. Ajae Petty came to life with some good footwork and spin moves to score 8 points. As the Cats held the Aggies scoreless for over three minutes to take a 2 point lead. The game went into halftime tied 24-24.
The Cats began the third quarter putting up a 32-30 lead. Before the Aggies took control of the game to close out the quarter on a 17-2 run to lead 47-34. The Cats only managed 20 second half points and shot 30% from the field for the game. Rogers and Barker lead the Aggies with 15 points each. Petty led the Cats with 11 points and Maddie Scherr had 10 as th only Cats in double figures. The final score tonight was 61-44 for the Aggies.
