Head Coach Kyra Elzy and the Kentucky Wildcats women’s basketball team are taking on the 24th ranked Vanderbilt Commodores. They started with a quick three by Maddie Scherr and a steal and basket by AJae Petty. The 5-0 start soon was overtaken by Vandy as the Cats were behind 23-13 after the 1st quarter.

After being down at least 15 in the second the Cats fought to remain down 10 at halftime 44-34. Ajae Petty led the Cats with ten points and eight rebounds in the first half and Maddie Scherr added nine points. Iyana Moore led Vandy 13 points and Khamil Pierre with ten.
In the third quarter Vanderbilt who is ranked this week 24th for the first time since 2013-2014 in the Coaches Poll, took control of the game leading by 21 after three. Breaking the press led to some easy baskets and corner three point shots. Moore scored 14 in the quarter herself and led the Dores with 27 points. Ajae Petty played strong and recorded her forth straight double double in the quarter and tenth of the season. Finishing with 19 points and 18 boards by the end of the third quarter. Petty continues her stellar play. Maddie Scherr had 11.

Ajae Petty became just the second Kentucky women’s player in 50 seasons to record a 20/20 game in the 4th quarter. Petty finished with 23 points and 21 rebounds in a losing effort. Maddie Scherr added 20 points and Brooklynn Miles was the only other Wildcat with double figures with 11. Vanderbilt out-duels the Cats 95-73 as Moore has a great game with 37 points and seven assists. Kentucky travels Sunday to take on the No.1 ranked South Carolina Gamecocks on Sun, Jan 15.
