Thanksgiving week was full of football, food, and fun as it typically is in the NFL. We saw several wild upsets, some tight finishes, and some blowout dominating victories.
But now things are getting serious. There are only 6 weeks left until the conclusion of the 2023 regular season, and as is typical in the National Football League it looks as if it will be a mad scramble to the finish line for playoff spots and seeding.
With the playoff race in the front of our minds, the Greenville Sports Media NFL Power Rankings require an update. WIthout further ado, let’s get into it.
1. Philadelphia Eagles (Prev. 1)
The Eagles will be the first team to have a chance to clinch a spot in the playoffs this Sunday, which should tell you all you need to know about the kind of football they’ve been playing.
2. Kansas City Chiefs (Prev. 2)
The Chiefs are well in control of their division, and a playoff berth for the defending champs seems imminent. The rest of the season will be to see if Kansas City can earn the one seed.in the AFC.
3. Dallas Cowboys (Prev. 3)
Dallas has rolled ever since their loss to the Eagles several weeks ago. Thing is, they’ve only played three of the worst teams in the NFL. They begin a much tougher stretch with Seattle on Thursday Night Football.
4. San Francisco 49ers (Prev. 4)
A Thanksgiving night beatdown of the Seahawks has given the 49ers complete control of the NFC West. The 49ers are a strong contender in the NFC.
5. Baltimore Ravens (Prev. 5)
The Ravens handled the Chargers on Sunday Night Football, proving their prowess once again. The Ravens are a Super Bowl contender.
6. Jacksonville Jaguars (Prev. 7)
The Jaguars maintained their hold on the AFC South with a tight win over a surprisingly good Houston squad on Sunday. Their path to a division victory and a playoff berth is clear and well-defined.
7. Miami Dolphins (Prev. 6)
Miami destroyed the Jets on Black Friday. With Buffalo’s loss to Philadelphia, the Dolphins are in a very good spot atop the AFC East.
8. Buffalo Bills (Prev. 8)
So close. It’s always so close for Buffalo.
9. Detroit Lions (Prev. 9)
The Lions were shockingly manhandled by the Packers in Detroit on Thanksgiving day. Despite the loss, the Lions remain in excellent position in the NFC playoff race.
10. Houston Texans (Prev. 10)
Houston proved they are for real by taking the Jaguars down to the wire on Sunday, but it may not be playoff time just yet in Houston.
11. Denver Broncos (Prev. 14)
The Broncos are incredibly still riding as a win over Cleveland put Denver above .500 for the first time this year. We are beginning to believe.
12. Pittsburgh Steelers (Prev. 16)
The Steelers may have only scored 16 points on Sunday, but their offense looked leaps and bounds ahead of the formerly Matt Canada run product that the Pittsburgh offense had been trotting out. Hope springs eternal in the Steel City.
13. Cleveland Browns (Prev. 11)
Their defense is spectacular- but the Browns quarterback rotation continues to hold them back. It may be a lost year for Cleveland.
14. Cincinnati Bengals (Prev. 12)
No Burrow = No Bueno. The Bengals are in for a long month and a half before the season ends.
15. Seattle Seahawks (Prev. 13)
Oof. A massive loss to the 49ers didn’t give Seattle fans much hope heading into a tough stretch of their schedule.
16. Los Angeles Chargers (Prev. 15)
Chargering never ceases to amaze.
17. Green Bay Packers (Prev. 22)
A stunning upset victory over the Lions on Thanksgiving has given Packers faithful new hope. Do you believe in Love?
18. Minnesota Vikings (Prev. 17)
The Passtronaut and his team are crashing and burning with a loss to the lowly Bears on Monday Night Football.
19. Atlanta Falcons (Prev. 23)
Turns out you actually have success when you use highly drafted players in your offense. Who could have known?
20. Los Angeles Rams (Prev. 25)
Grandma wasn’t the only one cooking on Thanksgiving weekend. That’s two straight wins for the Rams.
21. New Orleans Saints (Prev. 18)
The Saints are losing their hold on the NFC South after a loss to the Falcons on Sunday.
22. Indianapolis Colts (Prev. 19)
With Johnathan Taylor out for two weeks, the Colts are in danger of fully falling out of the playoff race in a strong AFC.
23. Tampa Bay (Prev. 20)
The Buccaneers are infuriatingly mediocre.
24. Las Vegas Raiders (Prev. 21)
The Raiders made it close with the Chiefs for a minute, but Kansas City eventually pulled away. Las Vegas will most likely soon be looking towards next season, but at least Josh McDaniels isn’t the coach anymore.
25. New York Jets (Prev. 24)
Aaron Rodgers’ practice window has miraculously been opened, but that’s about the only positive recently for the Jets.
26. Tennessee Titans (Prev. 26)
They won, but it somehow didn’t feel like a win. Quite the paradox.
27. Arizona Cardinals (Prev. 27)
Draft season, anyone?
28. New York Giants (Prev. 31)
I honestly have no idea how this team has won 2 straight games.
29. New England Patriots (Prev. 28)
Just when you thought it couldn’t get any worse, the Pats fell to the worst Giants team in a decade. Ouch.
30. Chicago Bears (Prev. 29)
Somehow, the Bears made a Monday Night Football win over a divisional opponent look terrible. All that win did was worsen their draft pick chances.
31. Carolina Panthers (Prev. 30)
There’s always next year.
32. Washington Commanders (Prev. 32)
With a 35 point loss to Dallas, the Commanders retain their position at the bottom of our rankings for the third week in a row.
