WWE Night of Champions is upon us with the guarantee of a new champion. Let’s break down each match currently scheduled for the card this weekend.

Let’s start with the previously mentioned guaranteed new champion, as Seth Rollins takes on AJ Styles for the (depending on how you look at it but according to WWE marketing) first World Heavyweight Championship. This storyline and booking is a little bit confusing to me personally. When they first announced the new title they claimed it would be brand specific (with Roman Reigns the current Universal Champion on Smackdown) you would assume it goes to Raw. WWE then announced a tournament on Raw and the same on Smackdown where the winners would face off for the new strap. I do believe they picked two good candidates considering they seem to be going for pure wrestling work horses. These two are true professionals who will surely put on a show. I look forward to a high paced match and predict that Seth Rollins will be walking out with the newest strap to hit the WWE.

Next up we have Cody Rhodes and Brock Lesnar going at it again. After these two had a very lackluster match last time where Brock basically beat up Cody Rhodes before cutting himself and getting rolled up, they want to run it back. Not only do these two in the ring make no sense, the booking and storyline are more confusing then entertaining. Whether you look at size, athletizm, booking, or by almost any measure, Cody in the ring and winning with Brock Lesnar is illogical. I do predict Brock Lesnar to beat Cody Rhodes in a vicious fashion (and I think he is going to have some fun collecting the tax for that cut).

The Bloodline is back at it with Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn but with a twist. The Bloodline storyline is evolving before us as we see a divide happening between The Uso’s and Roman who seems to be taking Solo on his side. This match is Roman Reigns and Solo Sikoa challenging for the tag team titles. In no world can I see Roman holding both sets of straps so the question is, what happens in the story? Whatever happens has to lend itself to the riff in The Bloodline, so however the current champions retain, it will be from a decision or mistake from someone in The Bloodline.

Next up it’s nice to see the Intercontinental Championship on the line, as Gunther defends against Mustafa Ali. With no real storyline to lead up to why this is happening, this was seemingly randomly thrown together via the winner of a Royal Rumble. For some reason WWE chose Ali. I respect Ali and think he is talented in the ring but this blows my mind on a couple different levels. First off let’s build a better story for one of the best IC runs of all time. If we cab get over that can we just stand them side by side? I am looking forward to Gunther chopping Ali into the next show as he easily retains his title.

The Raw Women’s Championship is on the line as Bianca Bel Air (recent Smackdown draftee) defends once again against Asuka. If you read my last article for Greenville Sports Media, you would know I took Asuka (and I took an L). Well, here we go. I am going to double down. I now understand they wanted to give her the longest reign of the modern Era and now believe they are ready for a change. They are letting Asuka look good on TV and introducing some new mist. With an honest attempt to keep my bias out of it, I am predicting Asuka with the win and a transition to a heel champion on Smackdown.
Oficial.

From one woman’s championship to another, let’s take a look at Rhea Ripley defending her title against Natalya. Is this perhaps the easiest one to predict and least interesting? There is not much to say besides I’ll take Rhea in a 7-minute 3-star match.

The final confirmed match would be Becky Lynch vs Trish Stratus. I hope Trish has put some more time in the ring since her return, as anytime I see her lately it is very sloppy, and to be honest, carried by her opponent. I don’t understand why they brought back a Legend to beef with someone who is already over to the general audience. Without a good promo between them, I have zero interest in this match. If Trish loses, are we calling that putting Becky over? I don’t get it, which is making it difficult to predict. I don’t see Trish sticking around long term so I will put my bet slip on Becky Lynch.

There we have it. The final card (subject to change) as of the Wednesday afternoon prior to the event. Will Cody survive Brock? What will happen to The Bloodline? Who will be the new World Heavyweight Champion? This and more this weekend at Night of Champions.
